Nancie R. Humes
Nancie Ruth “Ruby” Hall Humes, 84, passed away peacefully with the love of her life beside her on Saturday November 18, 2017. Nancie’s life was filled with love of family and a desire to help fill the needs of her community. She was born on January 17, 1933 to the late Culver and Ella Mae (Carter) Hall in Erie, PA. She attended Academy High School and then worked at General Electric in the secretarial pool. There her friendships led her to meet the love of her life William Clare Humes with whom she shared 63 years of love, laughter, family, and farming. After her marriage, Nancie moved to Union City and learned to manage a farm, milk cows, bale hay, and work around a dairy farmer’s schedule. She also became very active in the Bloomfield Fire Department Auxiliary spending many hours helping to raise money for the Department. Over the years Nancie worked as a cocktail waitress at Riverside Inn which provided many stories to tell her family. She also worked at the cafeteria at Union City High School and made friends with a group of co-workers fondly known as “The Ladies”. Together they spent many hours shopping, eating, and sharing stories of their lives. Nancie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union City where she helped with dinners, belonged to the Outreach Committee, and helped wherever she was needed. Her church family and their prayers, cards, and phone calls helped sustain her always but especially these last few months.
In addition to her parents Nancie is preceded in death by a grandson, Travis Glenn; brother, Culver “Jack” Hall; a sister, Ella Mae Szumigala; a brother-in-law, Edward Kozuchowsky; and a sister-in-law, Lucille McLaughlin. She is survived by her husband, Clare Humes; children, Rebecca (Robert) Glenn, Susan Humes, and Vince (Judy) Humes; grandchildren, Tara Whiteley, Benjamin (Shannon Davis) Humes, Scott Glenn, Michael Humes, Shelby Glenn, Jasmin (Austin) Collins; great grandsons, Gabriel and Garin Humes; sister, Dolly (Cliff) Comstock; brothers, Tom (Margaret) Hall, Dave (Judy) Hall, William “Bill” (Loretta) Hall, and Roy (Cindy) Hall; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kozuchowsky; many nieces and nephews; and more extended family than can fit into an address book.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 42 East High Street, Union City PA 16438 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon.
