WILLIAM CLARE HUMES
William Clare Humes, 87, of Union City passed through death to life eternal on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Known to everyone as Clare, he joined his cherished wife of 63 years and together now spend their days, hand in hand, looking out over fields of green talking about family and farming. Clare was born to Roy and Marie (Lafferty) Humes on April 21, 1930 in Bloomfield Township. He worked at Ajax in Corry as a crane operator and later as a full-time machinist at PHB in Fairview until his retirement at age 84; he then worked as a driver for Road Runner in Corry. Clare’s passion was farming, and he worked hard with his wife Nancie on the land called Humes Pride Farm. He raised dairy cows and later beef cattle as well as crops and hay. All was right in the world and on the farm if you could hear Clare whistling a tune from across the fields. Many long days were spent working the farm with his children and grandchildren. Life lessons were taught, unconditional love was shared, and learning about responsibilities was explained in detail and expected always. Clare was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union City. He sometimes found himself helping with volunteer activities his wife was involved in and saw fit for him to do.

Clare is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nancie (Hall) Humes whom he married on April 3, 1954, and missed greatly after her passing on November 18, 2017; a grandson, Travis Glenn; a sister, Lucille McLaughlin; brothers-in-law, Edward Kozuchowsky, Jack Hall and John Szumigala; and sister-in-law Ella Mae Szumigala. He is survived by children, Rebecca (Robert) Glenn, Susan Humes, Vince (Judy) Humes; grandchildren, Tara Whiteley, Ben (Shannon Davis) Humes, Scott Glenn, Mick Humes, Shelby Glenn, and Jasmin (Austin) Collins; great grandsons, Gabriel and Garin Humes; a sister, Dorothy Kozuchowsky; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Ruth Hall, Tom and Margaret Hall, Bill and Loretta Hall, Dolly and Cliff Comstock, Dave and Judy Hall, Roy and Cindy Hall; family and friends.

Calling hours will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 42 East High Street, Union City, PA 16438 on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Lea Guiney officiating. Dad always tried to help where help was needed most; to honor his beliefs memorials are requested to the charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the Happy Valley Ladies and the compassionate nursing aids at Walnut Creek for their dedication and friendship to our father and mother as well as to our family. Your kindness, respect, and laughter helped them feel at home and comfortable in their new surroundings.
