Obituary for Arthur David Young

Dr. Arthur David Young passed away from a broken heart, September 3, 2022, just eight days after the passing of his wife of 66 years, Elaine. He was 91. Dr. Young was born on February 4, 1931, and raised in Union City, Pennsylvania.

He is a graduate of Union City High School where he was a two-sport star on the football and basketball teams and played in the 1948 Erie Save an Eye football game as a fullback for the East All Stars.

He then went on to graduate from his beloved Penn State University with a degree in Agriculture after serving three years in the Armed Forces during the Korean War conflict.

Shortly after marrying then Elaine Yost, on March 3, 1956, Dr. Young pursued his lifelong dream of veterinary medicine attending The Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated in 1962 with honors.

After spending six years employed at the Beekman Veterinary Clinic, in Lockport, New York, Dr. Young then moved his family to Hermitage, Pennsylvania where he began Young Veterinary Hospital on August 1, 1968. Dr. Young served his passion of caring for the health and wellbeing of small animals, throughout the Shenango Valley and beyond, for 50 years to the day retiring on August 1, 2018, at the age of 87.
Dr. Young is preceded in death by his wife and soulmate Elaine, his father and mother, Rulaf and Julia Marie Young, his brother and his wife, Marshal and Ellen Young, and his brother-in-law and his wife, Norman and Mary Lou Yost.

He is survived by his son Robert and his wife Elizabeth and his grandchildren Jennifer and Jonathon, his son Douglas, his nieces Bonnie Hall and Becky Van Riper, and nephews Blaine Yost, Richard Young and his wife Judy, and Alan Young and his wife Michelle.

Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday, September 9th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 62 S. Main Street, Union City. A graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Union City with Pastor Rob Willert, officiating.

The Young family would like to thank Nugent’s Nursing Home for their continuous support and attention throughout his stay. The family would ask that any memorial donations be made to the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Road, Hermitage, Pennsylvania, 16148.
