Obituary for Howard R. Rohde

Howard R. Rohde, age 92, of Wattsburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Corry Manor.

Born on March 3, 1930, in Lawrence Park, Erie, he was the son of the late Fritz and Helena (Rieker) Rohde.

On June 1, 1957, Howard married the love of his life, Virgene Marie Stutzman, who preceded him in death in 2011.

Howard was a long time member of the Beaverdam Mennonite Church where he served on the Administrative Council and was a trustee for the church in the past.

Howard loved farming very much, as much as he enjoyed sharing and visiting with folks. In his younger years he dairy farmed for a time with his younger brother, Herbert, at the Clough farm, in Spring Creek, selling Cockshutt and Patz farm equipment. Howard also worked for a time on Ivan Miller’s Potato Farm in Beaverdam. Later on, Howard bought the Rohde family farm in Wattsburg and began growing and selling potatoes there. Howard also began working second shift at Associated Spring, Barnes Group, where he served as union steward and shop safety foreman for a number of years. After retiring from Associated Spring, he sold seed for companies including Garst, King, Chem-gro and Pioneer. Howard continued his love of farming, working on his favorite Oliver tractors, being very adept at fixing them and other equipment as well, but always ready to stop what he was doing to visit with any customer or friend who happened to stop by.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Deborah A. Campbell and her husband Fred of Corry; his son Gordon H. Rohde of Wattsburg, granddaughters, Kaleigh Dinges (fiancé Justin Yost) of Wattsburg and Kymberly Braine of Valparaiso, Indiana; and his brother Herbert Rohde,(Myrta) along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he is preceded in death by his half-brothers, Clifford Rohde, Robert Rohde and brother William Rohde.

Arrangements are under the care of Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 62 South Main Street, Union City and Celebration of Howard’s Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to the Beaverdam Mennonite Church, 17721 PA-89, Corry, PA 16407 or Wattsburg Hose Co., 14415 Main St, Wattsburg, PA 16442
