Obituary

Meadville – Thomas L. Linz, Sr., 77, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019. He was born on August 8, 1941 in Geneva, PA, the son of late Edward L. Linz, Sr. and Irene E. (Harauff) Linz. He married Marcia L. Carter on September 12, 1970, she survives.

After graduating from Conneaut Lake High School in 1961, Tom started a family tradition of proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal while serving with the 574th Transportation Company in France and Germany. This proud tradition of Military Service was carried on by his sons and grandson. At the conclusion of his service, Tom joined the family business as a Union Painter for Linz Brothers Painting.

Tom was an active member of his community. He spent numerous hours socializing with his many friends through his memberships to the VFW 2006, American Legion 205, the Meadville Club, West Mead #2 Volunteer Fire Company, Conneaut Lake VFD Station 3 and BPOE Elks 219 where he was a life member.

Always ready for an adventure, Tom took many trips with his wife. They traveled to Europe to visit their sons who were stationed abroad. The couple also had the opportunity to experience Asia, Central America, Hawaii and several US States.

An avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins Tom enjoyed watching and attending games with his family. He loved NASCAR races traveling with his sons from New Hampshire to Homestead, Florida to watch the races.

Known for his incredible job taking care of his family, Tom will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years Marcia L. Linz; three children Thomas L. Linz, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Meadville, Michele R. Smith and her husband Bill of Slippery Rock, PA and Christopher “Andy” A. Linz and his wife Deanna of Rockville, MD; seven grandchildren Isabella Linz, Carter Linz, Brandon Owens, Patrick Owens, Lindy Owens, Abigail Smith and Tyler Smith; his sister Joann Phillips of Conneaut Lake; two sisters-in-laws, Diane DeBaise and her husband Andrew of Meadville and Maxine Linz of Conneautville; brother-in-law Roderick Carter and his wife Barbara; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Tom is preceded in death by his brother Edward L. Linz, Jr. and brother-in-law George Phillips.
