Obituary for Thomas Edward Smith
Thomas Edward Smith, died on February 6, 2021 at Saint Vincent Health Center. He lived in Erie, PA for many years. He was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Frenchtown, Pennsylvania.
Tom attended Randolph East Mead High School and transferred to Cathedral Prep in the 10th grade from which he graduated from 1959. He went on to Gannon College, then St. Bonaventure University in Allegheny, New York where he received his Master's Degree. He worked in multiple towns and cities in Pennsylvania including Franklin, Hermitage, Punxsutawney, Frenchville, Mt. Jewitt, DuBois, Frenchtown and Erie.
Tom was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest by Bishop John Whealon on May 27, 1967 and served in all of the above places. He ended his priestly service in 2006 and became a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Tom enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Tom co-founded, along with Sr. Therese Dush, Young People Who Care Center in Frenchville, PA.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Constance Weier; brother-in-law, Chet Weier; brother, Denny Smith; and brother-in-law Clarence Tarr.
Survivors include his sisters, Joyce Tarr of Guys Mills and Debbie Furry and her husband Jim of Guys Mills; brother Terry Smith and his wife Karen of Topsham, Maine; sister-in-law Janet Smith and his beloved nieces and nephews, James Oakes, Jason Oakes and Jared Oakes and his wife Jill; Kelly Tarr and Blaine Tarr and his wife Dede; Eric Smith and his wife Kasey; Jill Bartlett and her husband Matt; Tammi Weier, Traci Jordan; Jodi Miller and her husband Denny; Katie Tynes and her husband Steve; Scott Smith; Taylor Smith; Heather Acel and her husband Kyle; Matt Furry; Allison Polley and her husband Jeff and Pam Pratt and her husband Kyle; also many great nieces and nephews. Also his special friends JK and Joanie Konzel, Kurt Unger and many more.
Friends are invited to call The Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, 26012 N. Frenchtown Road Guys Mills PA 16327 with Father John Jacquel as celebrant. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic masks are required and social distancing is recommended.
Burial will take place at St. Hippolyte Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, 26012 N. Frenchtown Road Guys Mills PA 16327.
