Obituary for Dorothy E. Vickers (Wheelock)

Dorothy E.  Vickers (Wheelock)
Dorothy E. Vickers, 81, of Townville, PA was called home to be with her Lord on April 18, 2017 at Wesbury's Grace Rehabilitation and Health Center. Dorothy was born in Titusville, PA on December 30, 1935 a daughter of the late Neldon Wheelock and Marian Eggleston Wheelock.

Dorothy attended Townville High School after which she earned her degree in nursing at Meadvilie City Hospital School of Nursing. On April 26, 1958 she married John W. Vickers, Jr. They enjoyed 52 happy years together until John's death on May 12, 2010. Dorothy spent many years as a full time home maker until she went to back to work as a nurse at what was then Mead Nursing Home. After leaving Mead Nursing Home, she worked at Urgent Care on Water Street until her retirement from nursing.

Dorothy was a devout Christian and was a member of Townville United Methodist Church where for many years she was their organist as well as being an active part of other church activities and organizations. She sang for a number of years with the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, which she greatly enjoyed. In addition to her love for music and her natural ability to play piano and organ, Dorothy also played violin and accordion. She was a kind, nurturing, and gentle person who spent much of her life caring for others. Dorothy loved spending time with family. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Linda Hornaman and her husband Mark of Cambridge Springs; two sons, Barry Vickers and his wife Diane of Conneaut Lake, and Kevin Vickers of Conneaut Lake; and her brother James Wheelock and his wife Susan of Townville. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ryan and Kari Carpenter, Tom and Becky Mahovsky, Lori Hornaman, Julie and Angie Vickers. Dorothy had four great-grandchildren: Ainslee, Jameson, and Camlin Carpenter and Paxton Pasinski. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Thompson.

Friends and family are welcome to call at the Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home, 33353 North Main Street, Townville, on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The funeral service will be held at Townville United Methodist Church, 33729 N Main Street, Townville, PA, on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Frank J. Weingard of Sugar Lake and Deckard's United Methodist Churches officiating.

Interment will be at Kingsley Cemetery in Townville.
